The Nottingham Koi Company was founded by Clint Ridley in August 2005.
Clint has been keeping koi for around 15 years and was first attracted to the hobby many years ago after his father had been keeping pond fish since he was born. First introduction to Koi keeping, was as an 18 month old, diving head first into one of his fathers ponds, and coming acquainted with a very, very, large Chagoi!
A man of few words back then, Clint went around fuelling his passion and quest for more and more knowledge for Nishikigoi.Travelling all over the United Kingdom and abroad,visiting numerous Koi and aquatics outlets, he became increasingly frustrated at the lack of truly, decent outlets, in his opinion, supplying the pinnacle of koi, of which he had learnt where all Japanese.Thus creating the company as it is today.
The health of the Koi is the driving force and ethos of the company, every possible, conceivable effort is put into giving the koi the best possible conditions to thrive.
Every Vat and pond at the premises are individually filtered and contain only koi from one specific breeder where possilble (Tosai-One year Old koi) to eradicate the chance of cross contamination, if any problems should arise, then this is contained to one vat or pond, again the health of the fish is paramount.
All Nottingham koi stocks are hand selected in Japan by Clint.
These koi are not 'Console Koi' , purchased by a 'Wholesaler' , and then, sold on to a 'Koi Dealer', and again, sold to the General Public !!
Many hours, have been spent in Japan learning from the True Masters! an education that is unsurpassed!!
Even now, in Japan, many koi outlets buy their koi by mixed boxes,this meaning they travel to Japan and look at the vast amount of koi available and are supplied by the breeder, a mixed box of his fish.

Through good relations and personal friendships with the breeders, we are able to personally, Hand Select Koi, thus being in the envious position,of selecting the Highest Grade Koi available.

Nottingham Koi use Fujio Oomo as their own personal guide (A Highly regarded ,respected breeder in Japan) Fujio is also our shipper and takes great care and detail that every koi exported reaches its destination in the best conditions possible
Time spent with Oomo san is always entertaining, anyone who has ever had the pleasure of meeting Fujio will know that his passion for koi and his sense of humour is bar none.

If Tategoi are available on the premises these should be taken very ,very seriously,! To many dealers use the word 'Tategoi' to sell their stocks these fish are very rarely available in the U.K, and to be able to purchase these is very, very, difficult !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Theses koi, are what the breeder believes are his very best koi ,and 'IF' available (Very Rarely) are never offered cheaply,again, relationships are key to this and we are in the envious position to purchase ,if funds allow, these type of koi.

Our company is also a full time operation,although we spend many hours updating and improving our website the door is always open!!!
We work 'full time' on our shop floor,six days a week from ten until six, every day apart from Tuesdays! but i'm sure you will find us open even then.

We are centrally located in the United Kingdom 30 minutes away from East Midlands airport and just 5 minutes off Junction 26-27 M1 Motorway.
Please be aware that with current climates regarding K.H.V and S.V.C and health of our stocks we require all visitors to walk through the foot dip to the entry of our premises and ask that you all use the Hand sterilizer before entering the Fish house.
